WhatsApp Plus v18.80 for Android

WhatsApp Plus v18.80 is an unofficial modified version of WhatsApp for Android, distributed by HeyMods. Many people look for a WhatsApp Plus download because of extra customisation options, but it is not made or approved by WhatsApp, and using it puts both your account and your phone at risk.

What WhatsApp Plus is

WhatsApp Plus belongs to a group of so-called WhatsApp mods: third-party builds that take the original messenger and change it. Typical changes are extra themes and interface tweaks, privacy toggles that the official app does not offer and other settings that alter how chats look and behave. The mod connects to the same WhatsApp network as the original app, which is exactly why WhatsApp treats such clients as a violation of its terms. The developers of the mod are not the developers of WhatsApp, the code is not published for review, and updates come from the mod's own site rather than from Google Play. When you install it, you trust an anonymous team with the messages, photos and contacts on your phone.

Key facts

• Version: v18.80
• Published by: HeyMods (not WhatsApp)
• Platform: Android
• Status: unofficial modification
• Size: about 95.87 MB according to catalogue data

The risks

• Account bans. WhatsApp can temporarily or permanently block numbers that use unofficial clients.
• Malware. A modified messenger can contain hidden code that reads messages, steals contacts or shows intrusive ads. You cannot verify what was changed.
• No official security fixes. Protection added by WhatsApp reaches the mod late or not at all.
• Data loss. Moving back to the official app may not bring your chat history with it.
• Not from the original developer. Support and responsibility lie with an unknown third party.

If you want to examine it

Do not install mods on the phone that holds your main WhatsApp account. For research, use a separate device or an isolated environment such as the Android Studio emulator, with a number you do not need. We do not provide links to download WhatsApp Plus.

The safer choice

Use the official WhatsApp on Google Play. It is free, receives regular updates and security fixes, and comes from the developer of the service itself. If you already use a mod, back up the chats you care about, uninstall it, install the official app and check the account's linked devices.

Signs of a problem

Warnings from WhatsApp about an unofficial app, sudden logouts, unknown linked devices or new ads on the phone are reasons to remove the mod at once.

Price

The mod is free, but the real cost can be your account and data.

Pros and cons

• Pro: extra customisation.
• Con: not made or approved by WhatsApp.
• Con: risk of account ban.
• Con: possible hidden malicious code.
• Con: no official updates.
